Boao Lecheng Visa Guide: Hainan's 30-Day Policy and 240-Hour Transit

    In short

For a medical visit to Boao Lecheng, check Hainan's 30-day visa-free entry policy against your passport and itinerary. The National Immigration Administration (NIA) added Kyrgyzstan and Vietnam on 20 August 2026: this policy now covers ordinary passport holders from 61 countries. Its permitted short-term purposes include medical treatment, and its geographical limit is Hainan Province.

The separate 240-hour visa-free transit policy covers 57 countries and requires a confirmed onward journey to a third country or region. A Jakarta–Haikou–Jakarta return itinerary does not meet that transit condition. This does not make transit unsuitable for every medical traveller: eligibility depends on the complete itinerary and the relevant entry rules.

Return home A return-home journey does not by itself exclude this policy; confirm documents with the carrier and border authority Returning to the same country or region from which you arrived does not meet the third-country transit requirement

Why a return ticket is not a transit itinerary

Transit means travelling from country or region A through mainland China to a different country or region B. Booking a return ticket to A does not satisfy that condition. Do not add an artificial connection without checking the whole route, the carrier's requirements and the time available for care. Neither immigration eligibility nor an airline booking confirms a treatment appointment.

    Prepare your Hainan visit

    1. Check the complete official country list and your passport type. Indonesia, Malaysia, Russia, Kazakhstan, France and Germany are among the eligible countries; Kyrgyzstan and Vietnam are now included. Do not rely on an old country count. Other bilateral or nationwide exemptions may apply under their own rules.
    2. Confirm where you first enter mainland China. Arriving in Beijing or Shanghai and then taking a domestic flight is not entry through a Hainan port under this regional policy. Check that first entry separately. For an international arrival in Hainan, confirm the route and documents with the airline and immigration authority.
    3. Confirm the medical plan separately. Ask the receiving institution for written acceptance, appointment arrangements, expected care and recovery requirements, and any documents needed for immigration. A visa exemption does not reserve a doctor or establish eligibility for a medicine or device.
    4. Check your permitted stay and accommodation registration. Keep within Hainan under this policy. Hotels register guests; for other accommodation, confirm the required registration with the host and local authority.
    5. Plan for delays before they arise. If care may require a longer stay or travel elsewhere in mainland China, consult Hainan's exit-entry administration early and apply as required before the permitted stay expires. Supporting hospital documents do not make an extension automatic.

What the Lecheng location does and does not decide

Boao Lecheng is in Hainan. An entry permission and a medical decision are separate matters. The receiving institution must confirm whether it can accept your case and provide the proposed treatment; any special medicine or device access must follow its applicable approval process. PriumCare can help organise records and coordination questions, but does not grant entry permission, diagnose, prescribe or promise treatment access.

    Frequently asked questions

Can Indonesian, Kyrgyz or Vietnamese passport holders use Hainan's policy for medical treatment?

The official list includes Indonesia, Kyrgyzstan and Vietnam, and medical treatment is a permitted purpose. An ordinary passport, the actual route and the other entry conditions still need to be checked. The country list alone is not an individual admission decision.

Does Jakarta–Haikou–Jakarta qualify for 240-hour transit?

No: it returns to the same country. Assess Hainan's regional policy or another applicable visa or exemption instead; do not present that return itinerary as third-country transit.

Can I enter Beijing first using the Hainan exemption?

No. Hainan's regional exemption does not authorise that entry. A Beijing arrival requires its own applicable visa or exemption, even if your final destination is Hainan.

What if treatment needs more than 30 days?

Contact the local exit-entry administration before your permitted stay expires to confirm the application and documents required. Approval is not automatic. Do not assume a medical appointment permits an overstay.

What if my country is not on the 61-country list?

Check other applicable exemptions and the Chinese embassy or visa centre serving your place of residence. Ask which visa category and supporting documents fit your circumstances. A hospital invitation may be relevant, but it does not itself grant a visa; do not assume every medical visit uses the same visa category.

    Sources and policy check

Policy editorial check: 25 October 2026. This is an immigration-source check, not medical review or an admission decision. Update on this date: country counts and both added countries corrected; transit, visa-category and extension conditions clarified. Reconfirm the official rules before booking.

    Plan the next step

Ask about pre-consultation and document preparation before committing to travel. Confirm the scope and fees of any coordination separately from hospital care.
