Medical Care in Beijing: A Planning Guide for International Patients

Start with the question you need answered

Beijing is a possible base for a specialist assessment, a planned checkup or a TCM consultation. The city name alone does not identify the right service. Write down the clinical question, send the relevant records through the institution's accepted route, and confirm which department can assess it before arranging travel.

The municipal medical guide identifies institutions offering international services and explains appointment and payment routes. Its list is a starting point for checking services, not a guarantee that a particular doctor, language or insurer is available on your date. PriumCare does not claim that every listed institution is its partner.

Confirm the campus and the route through the hospital

Ask for the hospital's full Chinese name, the exact campus, department, appointment reference and arrival instructions. A general outpatient clinic, a special-needs clinic and an international department can have different registration routes and charges within the same institution. Do not use an international-department quotation to predict the cost of an ordinary outpatient visit, or the reverse.

Before choosing accommodation, map the confirmed campus and any separate imaging or laboratory locations. Allow room in your itinerary for results and a possible follow-up visit. Neither a coordinator nor an advertised appointment determines whether the clinician will need further tests.

    Before paying Obtain in writing
Clinical fit Department, records required and whether an in-person assessment is necessary
Communication Language, interpreter arrangements and how the written report will be delivered
Costs Registration, consultation, tests, interpretation and coordination as separate items
Insurance Exact department and policy eligibility, pre-authorisation and patient share

Bring the record home with you

Keep original reports, imaging files and the clinician's written plan together. Ask how pending results will be delivered and who will answer questions after departure. A translated summary helps communication but does not replace the original medical record.

    Questions patients ask

Does a Beijing pilot designation guarantee an appointment?

No. Confirm the actual department, clinician, date and service scope. A policy designation is not a booking.

Will every part of the visit be in English?

Do not assume so. Ask separately about registration, consultation, consent, tests and the report. Request support in your own language where necessary.

Should I choose Beijing instead of another city?

Compare the institutions that can address your question, confirmed appointment options, travel demands and follow-up arrangements. A city ranking cannot make that decision for you.

    Can international insurance pay directly?

Only when the insurer and the relevant hospital service confirm the arrangement for your policy and planned care. The municipal guide is not a coverage approval.
